About Us
Our History
Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church was formed in 1750 from the log church in the Barrens.
Over the years Slate Ridge has had strong leadership from 20 pastors deepening our members faith and commitment to community.
The original church was located in York County, PA being the first Presbyterian Church in Southern PA west of the Susquehanna River.
The current building is located in MD but only a few yards from the Mason Dixon Line.
In 2015 Slate Ridge was pleased to call Rev. Ken Osborne to serve as Pastor.
Meet the Staff

Ken Osborne
Pastor
I have been privileged over the past 25 years to serve 9 different churches in 4 different Presbyteries and 2 different denominations. From my first call to my current call, I seem to have a passion to be with churches in transition.

Looking back, I did that in every job I had before coming to the ministry. I have served in mildly conflicted churches and severely conflicted churches; others just needed something different after a long time with a former pastor. The thing that bothers me the most is that the conflicts were primarily the result of poor leadership on the part of a pastor.
For some reason, many pastors seem to think that they can do anything they want, and the Session and the congregation will let them do it. It makes for a very confusing dynamic. One of the things I really like about the Presbyterian denomination is that the pastor is not the one in charge. We got it right when we changed our titles back to the Pastor’s as the Teaching Elder and the Session as the Ruling Elders. God’s church functions much more effectively when the Ruling Elders and the Teaching Elder work together under the direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit. When those roles get altered, the church pays the price.
And it always amazes me that the congregations know even with poor leadership there is something about God’s church they refuse to lose. So, I have been honored to serve these 9 churches and try to model what I see as good and effective leadership. I am overjoyed to be serving both Slateville and Slate Ridge these past 4 years with more years to come. I look forward whatever it is God has in store for us.[/expander_maker]

Linda Jarvis
Secretary
Linda assumed the role of Secretary of Slate Ridge in January 2019 after retiring from a contracting position in the administrative field at the Aberdeen Proving Ground-Edgewood Area; her service as civilian and contractor totaled 45 years.
She resides in Delta and is a 50-year member of our sister church, Slateville Presbyterian, where she is the organist and choir director. She has been coming to Slate Ridge Church since her young Brownies and Bible School days; the congregation and the community may remember that she was one of Eleanor Thompson’s organ students. Being a church secretary was always her post-retirement dream; she is thrilled that God found this job for her.
